• TransFusion + Opening Reception

    TransFusion explores folk dance, by infusing and interpreting bhangra through dance forms from around the world. Featuring performers from Smokey Valley (Aboriginal), the Jewish Community Centre (Israeli), Now or Never Crew (Hip Hop), and Leela Dance (Gujurati), the Royal Academy of Bhangra and led by MC and beatboxer, Rup Sidhu, this intercultural mash-up takes a collaborative approach to understanding the language of folk dance.

  • Media Arts Mehfil + Community Reception

    The term “mehfil” refers to an evening of entertainment in an intimate setting. A twist on the traditional mehfil style, this gathering of accomplished performers brings together new collaborations grounded in an emphasis on improvisation, collaboration, and a sense of play. With performances delivered by the NAAD Foundation and collaborating artists Rup Sidhu and Vince Mai.


    The evening’s performance will conclude with our Community Reception – an open invitation to our family of partners, supporters and festival attendees to celebrate and ring in our 10th anniversary in style.


    The event is recommended for ages 19+ with food brought to you by and the fine wines of Desert Hills.

    This year we are partnering with Punjabis in Pakistan and the Pakistani Community in the Lower Mainland, to host one of the most fascinating names to emerge from Pakistan – performer and Sufi mystic, Sain Zahoor. This will be the second time Sain Zahoor performs in Vancouver, and VIBC’s first event of Indian and Pakistani Punjabi solidarity.


    Opening the evening will be Indo-Pak band “naQsh”.

    As a live music mashup, we take the traditional mehfil (intimate gathering for socializing and entertainment) and turn it into a night of improvisation and collaboration between talented and entertaining musical artists from the community. The mehfil is always inspiring for the quality of performances and the realization of the depth and breadth of talent that exists in our local community.
