Feel the beat of the drums as rePercussion hits the stage for the opening reception of the 2013 HSBC City of Bhangra Festival. This popular musical act expresses the many cultures that represent Vancouver through the art of drumming. Sal Ferrerras brings together artists such as Paul Bray, Celso Machado, Kurai Mubaiwa, Jack Duncan, Karn Bhuller, Amika Kushara and Susan Nase. Bar onsite for your convenience.

The month of June is kick-started with InFlux with VIBC Media Mehfil Night. Be entertained with a fabulous evening of live music mash-ups, hip hop dance battles and art projections as InFlux returns to the Surrey Art Gallery. Mehfil refers to an evening of entertainment in an intimate setting. A twist on the traditional mehfil style, this informal gathering of digital media artists, musicians and dancers brings together new collaborations grounded in mehfil’s emphasis on improvisation, collaboration, and a sense of play. With performances by Mohamed Assani, DJ A-Slam, Sammy Chien, Tad Hozumi, Rup Sidhu, Dave Bawa and Sukhraj and Finland’s only Bhangra group Shava will be performing collaborative pieces with local artists.

This event is for ages 19-30, beverages will be available for purchase at the venue.

Start your week off with a bang! On Monday, June 3rd, pedestrians and passersby  will be treated to live music and dancing . Hitting the streets of downtown, there will be a lineup of local performers showcasing their dance and musical talents. Don’t forget to catch Bhangra at its best with street performances by a Bhangra team! This is a free event. Catch us downtown on Robson Street between Howe and Hornby Street.

Artists come together to live, laugh and learn at Bhangra Village. Co-produced with and hosted by Music on Main, this event presents Punjabi folk traditions from critically acclaimed D-Sarb. A classically trained artist from the UK who is only 19 years old, DSarb has established himself as an all around artist performing Punjabi and Qawwali music, including a tribute to the late Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. An up close and personal show in an intimate setting, well suited for music appreciation of all sorts.
