VIBC Presents: the NEXT Bhangra Competition This Saturday!

The VIBC Society Presents: The NEXT Bhangra Competition this Saturday, November 28, 2009!!! Get your tickets now and don’t miss out on the stars of tomorrow will lighting up the stage! This year's competition will feature talented teams from club divisions:

1. Apna Virsa Academy (AVA)
2. BC Cultural Academy (BCCA)
3. Duniya Dance Academy Juniors.
4. Punjabi Folk Academy (PFA)
5. Punjabi Cultural Arts Center (PCAC)
6. Punjabi Cultural Bhangra Club of Abbotsford (PCBCA)
7. Shan –E – Punjab Girls
8. Vancouver Bhangra

Make sure you're there to cheer on these teams on November 28, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. at the Bell Centre for Performing Arts in Surrey, B.C.

Tickets are $25 for Lower Bowl and $15 for Balcony. Tickets available at Kamal's Video, Tasleem's Video, and Grover Video.

Catch the Headline Act: A-Slam!

A-slam will be bringing their sound to the NEXT Bhangra Competition audience! Fresh off a cross country tour with Imran Khan, a summer tour in England and opening for H-Dhami, Apna Sangeet and the Heera Group at the 2009 City of Bhangra After Party, A-Slam has had an amazing and eventful year!

Be there on November 28, 2009 to feel the sounds and move to the music!

Quantum Bhangra

The VIBC Society is proud to partner with the 2010 Cultural Olympiad, the British Columbia Arts Council and the British Council, to bring the city of Vancouver the biggest party on stage. Quantum Bhangra collects influences and styles from around the world — rock, funk, hip-hop and jazz — and weaves them together with a common thread of bhangra and Punjabi folk traditions.

Singer and movie star Harbhajan Mann headlines, mixing fast-paced bhangra rhythms and trademark Punjabi ballads. With Shin, founding member of the seminal British band DCS, joining Vancouver rockers En Karma, and the hip-hop inspired funk of San Francisco’s Black Mahal featuring vocalist and Dhol master Ustad Lal Singh Bhatti.
