Volunteer

The VIBC Society is always looking for interesting, clever, energetic volunteers to be a part of our team. VIBC is a volunteer run, not-for-profit society with many opportunities available for volunteers seeking organizational or event roles.
Read below to find some general descriptions for ongoing committees and various volunteer roles within VIBC. Whether you can donate 1 hour per month or 100, we have roles for all levels of engagement.

Volunteer Opportunities with the VIBC Society

We are looking for individuals for the roles as defined under the following areas:

Marketing Committee

  • Create marketing and communications plans
  • Oversee all newsletters, social media updates, blog/website updates, and press releases
  • Assist with developing sponsor relationships and partnerships with media outlets
  • Liaise with VIBC’s agency, Armada Design Group, on strategy and creative for festival campaigns
  • Liaise with festival publicist in creation of press releases and media kits for festival events and artists, as well as collection and tracking of publicity (newspaper clippings, TV recordings, web links)
  • Develop target audience profile and specialized promotional strategies for all festival events

Performer Services

  • Research and maintain database of local Bhangra dancers and musicians on an ongoing basis
  • Schedule performances and manage bookings throughout the year
  • Manage logistics, food, accommodations and transportation for Bhangra teams during festival
  • Develop relationships with other festivals and events and research new performance opportunities for local Bhangra talent

Volunteer Services

  • Research recruitment needs and develop strategies for attracting event-day volunteers and committee members
  • Develop materials and documentation for incoming volunteers and committee members
  • Maintain database of past and current volunteers
  • Organize training, orientation as well as appreciation events for event-day volunteers

Finance Committee

  • Coordinating and reviewing the work of the bookkeeper, as well as providing regular financial and project update reports to the Board
  • Processing cheque payments and managing cash
  • Creating invoices and being responsible for the billing and collections process
  • Developing budgets for our festival and events
  • Developing and implementing effective policies and procedures to measure, control, monitor and report on the organization’s financial results

Festival Volunteer (Event-Day)

  • Registration and sign-in
  • Backstage coordination
  • Stage management and wrangling
  • Ushering and customer service
  • Catering and event logistics
  • Technical support

VIBC has chosen to focus on the professional development of each of their volunteers. Each volunteer will be given the opportunity to showcase and advance their skills which will aid in their career development. VIBC has committed to work with each volunteer to provide the opportunities the volunteer needs to gain valuable work experience in positions and areas that will aim to further the individual’s career.
